There is just a hell of a lot of stuff swirling through my brain right now. New job is settling down, this is my first actual part-time week. Of course, they put up a posting for a temp assignment for my old job, so I put in for that. It's just for the summer, but it would be back to my old income for a bit until my other chance at getting the old pay grade back comes through.
My friend Carol and I are booking a weekend getaway to a B&B in Northern Ontario for a scrapbooking weekend. It's so cool. Very cheap for a weekend away, and we can scrapbook all weekend without having kids or husbands bugging us. And someone else will cook for us and all! :D We're going at teh end of August. I thought I wasn't going to be able to go, because we have to book like now and I'm broke for a few more weeks, but my Mom is the bestest ever and will use her credit card to book me. I'll just pay her back when I finally get all my pay straightened out.
I have a doctor's appointment this week to get a couple things checked out. My worse knee (they're both bad) has been acting up and Naproxen is starting to eat away my tummy, so I need some anti-inflammatories. I'm going to have him look at my ears and also see about getting my hearing checked. There was an issue at work recently about the volume I speak at, and I had no idea that I was being loud. This has been an ongoing problem for me, so I thik I need to look into it. And last but not least, I have been having lower abdominal pains that I associate with past pains that were actually from a big-ass ovarian cyst (or three). So I need to get that checked out. Last thing I need is for another one of those to rupture ... last time I was out of commmission for about a week. Yay for Demerol, though.

So yeah, weird shit is going on, physically and mentally ... but I am REALLY looking forward to a chance to get away, even if only for a weekend.

First day went well. I actually kind of like the job and it was so uplifting to have so many people say how glad they were to see me back. My friend Zita was so happy to see me, it made me feel really good. We've seen each other a couple times snce I left work, we're not just work friends any more, but she was so happy I was there.

I had a really good weekend too. Went to post about it yesterday but the Ronald Reagan thing came out instead.

Friday --- my sister's friend Liza graduated from teacher's college. I didn't get to go, but Aims did and then we went to the movies in the evening. Saw PoA.
So I was disappointed in it. It didn't WOW me like the others, although as I think about it it's growing on me.
Gripes:
1 -- Some explanation of Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs would have been appropriate ... as would some corresponding explanation of Harry's Patronus.
2 -- Honeydukes and Butterbeer were sadly neglected.
3 -- Draco was a whiney little bitch.
4 -- Never thought I'd say this of Gary Oldman, but Sirius didn't look crazy enough at first.
5 -- Dementors could have been scarier ... Ebert said they looked like Scooby-Doo villains and I have to say that's not far off.
6 -- WTF when Scabbers ran off and then Hermione was all PO'd at Ron ... no explanation AGAIN
I loved:
1 -- the Ron/Hermione thing.
2 -- Harry's Patronus was spectacular.
3 -- Lupin and Sirius were well-cast.
4 -- BUCKBEAK!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and Cyn has officially spoiled me from the innocent enjoyment of HP movies. I kept eying Draco and Harry and thinking, "Hmmmm ... what if?" :P

Saturday we went to a free Finger Eleven show at the LaSalle Strawberry Festival. It was a great show, totally made up for them not being at SnoCore. Mmmmmm, strawberries and ice cream ... even if they never get local berries ripened in time and we were eating Cali berries.

Sunday we made brunch for Mom and Dad's anniversary (Sat, but they went out to dinner). It was yummy. :) Mmmmm, Cinnabon.

So, all in all, a pleasant weekend, and today was much better than expected. I'm feeling pretty OK these days. :)

I think somehow I was managing not to think about Ronald Reagan. You know I'm not American, so the death of a President doesn't have the same meaning. But my Nanna has Alzheimer's disease and is turning 90 years old this year. I know exactly what that family has gone through, with the one difference being they had the resources to have him properly cared for at home. We have to go to a stinky scary nursing home to see her and it's hard. I liked Ronald Reagan. I'm glad his suffering has ended peacefully. I just hate the way it makes me feel.

(It's like wearing the shirt of the band to the concert of the band, isn't it?) Is that OK, or should I save the Punisher shirt for later and just wear a regular shirt? :Þ

The grass got mowed at my parents' place and the weird maintenance guy at work was hosing off the sidewalk ... both sure signs that spring is officially here! :D It's really improving my mood.

On a strange note, this means that as long as it's not raining on Sunday, we will finally be interring poor Odie. Tried to talk to the A/D yesterday, but we had a sick call and were super-busy. Served 94 customers by 4:15 when I left, and we're open until 5.
Just an update. Went to the doc yesterday, do in fact have the sinus infection. Was given the hugest antibiotic pills ever to take. Stayed home from work again today. Feeling sort of guilty about it, even though I really am feeling unwell. Due to circumstances there, it's getting hard to feel like going in on the best of days. I guess I just need the rest, I've been sick on and off for 5 weeks and a couple days to let the meds work doesn't seem untoward.

I'm finally getting somewhere in FFXI. My character is getting stronger, I pretty much know the way around my city now, and I've managed to complete a few quests. My major complaint is tha it's wicked hard to get your hands on any gil. You really have to work for it, because only certain monsters drop it, so it mostly comes from rewards for completing quests. We bought a keyboad with a USB connector (the compie is still PS/2 style) so that helps because I can talk to folks around me now.

We went to that concert on Saturday. It wasn't bad, but Finger Eleven was NOT there, so we were disappointed. Apparently they were in New York for Leno on Friday and couldn't make it. Ummm guys, it's called a plane? :Þ Smile Empty Soul was good, as was Trapt, although it seems their lead singer attended the David Drayman School of Performing Arts (cookies to anyone who can tell the rest of the class what I mean by that). So it was OK, but not as good as expected. Afterwards we were hungry, so we went to Hurricane's for food. There was a singing/guitar-playing guy performing there. He wasn't bad, except that the amps were way to loud for the size of the bar. But kudos for him for getting out there and doing it. Jay, Aimee, Liza and George were making fun of him, but I thought he was OK, and anyway none of us was up there proving we were better, y'know.

Well, that's all I've got. Much love.

O I'm whining again. I don't fucking care though. I am STILL sick, and I'm mising work AGAIN. And I'm trying to get a doctor appointment, and the damn receptionist won't answer the damn phone. So I'm bitter. I've called 11 times in 40 minutes and either get the machine on the first ring (she's on the phone) or the machine on the 4th ring (she doesn't answer). And I'm bitter. Or did I mention that?

I think it's just a sinus infection, but it's not clearing up and it's giving me bad headaches, like the one that prompted me to call in sick today. And last Thursday as well. I'm also under a huge stress load re: work, but that's a whole entry to itself, like when I don't have to go anywhere and I can have the massive crying jag that's lurking at the fringes of my psyche right now. I've had at least 3 minor meltdowns in the past week, and Jay doesn't seem to know how to help me. So I just cry, clean up and go on with my shit.

Anyway, I'm trying to phone again. Wish me luck.

[e]: Appt at 2:40.
